One in six children diagnosed with a learning disability actually has a correctable vision problem. (ABsee- a British Columbia Association of Optometrists preschool vision program)

Doctors of optometry strongly recommend a complete eye exam by the age of 3, and earlier if there are health or visual problems. It is important to remember that Annual Eye Exams are covered under BC Medical for anyone under 19 years of age.

It is generally recommended that children see a dentist once before their first birthday, or within 6 months from when their first tooth comes in, whichever occurs first.

Children from the Abbotsford area can receive a hearing assessment at the Chilliwack Hearing Clinic. This clinic is capable of assessing children as young as 6 months, and the test is covered by BC Medical.

Speech Therapy is provided by speech language pathologists at the Abbotsford Health Unit (604-864-3400) as well as from the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre (604-852-2686) - FREE of charge for preschool aged children.
